Hell's Handmaiden: The Flint Stryker Thriller Series - Book 3

By

Loved it!

This third instalment in the Flint Stryker series has our hero up against a feminist religious cult leader who believes she’s a goddess!

Hell’s Handmaiden is the third book about devil-may-care secret agent Flint Stryker, who works for a secretive organisation called Linchpin, which protects the world from the forces of evil when government agencies can’t. Blessed with unique pre-cognitive abilities, Flint, now a qualified operative, takes crazy risks but gets results, to the pained amusement of his handler Seven.

Along with his small but lethal partner CJ, Flint has retrieved valuable information about the criminal dealings of his nemesis Tesar Arman, finally allowing him to get revenge for the murder of his girlfriend. Then an explosion in a nearby gym, which kills a large number of male patrons, shifts his focus to a religious cult led by a beautiful but insane heiress determined to advance the cause of women - by exterminating men!

This series is best read in order to understand Flint’s transition from college slacker to driven hero, and the background to his special abilities. These are fun OTT reads with entertainingly cartoonish characters - goodies and baddies, many of which were introduced in the previous books and might seem underdeveloped if you’re new to the series.

Flint becomes more likeable with every book - he knows he’s a bit sexist but doesn’t take himself too seriously. I liked the will they/won’t they relationship with CJ and the banter with hardcase Cinder. There were some timeline and naming mistakes that I felt should’ve been picked up by beta-readers or the editor, and some elements got a bit repetitive, but nothing that took away my enjoyment of the book, and the writing was fine.

This was another fast-paced action adventure with plenty of humour. These are quick reads, with short chapters that will have you turning the pages to find out what happens, some unexpected twists, and a cliffhanger ending to keep you coming back for more.
